Summer may be over, but your ice cream obsession doesn’t have to be. And no, you don’t have to shelve your healthy lifestyle until the next bikini body season is on the horizon to indulge!

Enter nice cream. Part-vegan, part-indulgent dessert, nice cream is a term coined for ice cream that is dairy-free, refined-sugar free, and usually made from frozen bananas. Not only is it ten times better for you than the pre-packaged stuff with an ingredient list that sounds more like a science experiment, it’s so easy to make that you can go from craving to indulging in five minutes or less!

So get the inside scoop with our favourite nice cream recipes that’ll have you going back for guilt-free seconds.

Salty sweet caramel chocolate nice cream

  • 1 cup cashews
  • 400g can of coconut cream OR full-fat coconut milk 
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder
  • 8 medjool dates (pitted)
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 dairy-free chocolate bar, broken into chunks (salted caramel – yes, please!)

How to make

  1. Blend all ingredients (except chocolate bar) and freeze in a ziplock bag, or load up an ice cube tray. Freeze overnight.
  2. Once frozen, break into chunks and re-blend. Mix in chunks of chocolate bar.
  3. Freeze for an additional hour.
  4. Scoop!
  5. Throw your head back in pure bliss!

Banana peanut nice cream recipe

Super simple banana peanut butter nice cream

  • 2 large ripe bananas (sliced and frozen)
  • 1 tbs natural creamy peanut butter

How to make

  1. Place the frozen bananas and peanut butter in a high-powered food processor.
  2. Blend well and enjoy immediately.
  3. Go bananas for banana nice cream!

Mango macadamia nice cream recipe

Munchy mango and macadamia nice cream

  • 1 frozen medium banana
  • ½ cup frozen mango pieces
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 5-6 macadamias, roughly chopped
  • ½ cup coconut milk (carton)

How to make

  1. Place the banana, mango and maple syrup into a high-powered blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Sprinkle over the macadamias and serve immediately.
  3. Taste utter happiness!
