Aquatic Education Courses

Looking to become a qualified swim teacher, lifesaver, or pool lifeguard? 

UQ Sport is proud to offer a selection of accredited aquatic education courses to help you make the leap into the aquatic industry. Our stunning swimming pool and UQ’s classroom facilities are the ideal place for you to train and complete your studies.

All courses are fully accredited by either AUSTSWIM or the Royal Life Saving Society. 
 

STUDENT UNIQUE IDENTIFIER

** Important Information for all participants**

  • All participants enrolling in nationally recognised training in Australia will need a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI gives participants access to their online USI account which is made up of ten numbers and letters.  It will look something like this: 3AW88YH9U5.

  • The exclusive 10 digit number consisting of letters and numbers will be used to link your USI account to training records.  

  • Obtaining a USI is FREE and easy. To create your own USI online go to:  www.usi.gov.au.

  • Once you have your USI please bring it with you to your training course and include it on your enrolment form.  

  • NB: Under the legislation, training organisations can only issue certification when they have received your USI.

What are the options?

AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (TSW)

AUSTSWIM is Australia’s national organisation for the teaching of swimming and water safety™. If you want to train as a swim teacher, AUSTSWIM accreditation is the industry standard recognised across Australia and many countries overseas.

On completing this two-day course, and post course requirements you will be awarded AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety™ accreditation and be issued with a AUSTSWIM Teacher License™ (valid for three years). Please see the PDF below for full details.

Please note: a valid CPR certificate is required to complete this course.

Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion

Want to become an official, qualified lifesaver? The Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion gets you that title and is a must-have for many employers in the aquatic industry. This one-day course will enhance your personal survival skills while providing you with the knowledge and skills to develop the level of judgement, technique and physical ability required to safely carry out water rescues.

Both your Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medallion and Royal Life Saving Resuscitation certificate are valid for one year once you complete the course. Please see the PDF below for full details.

Royal Life Saving Society Pool Lifeguard

Lifeguarding is a tough job with a huge amount of responsibility. Australian lifeguards in particular are world renowned for their high levels of skill and knowledge in accident prevention and rescue response. This one-day course provides the professional training to prepare you for an exciting career as a qualified pool lifeguard.

The Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard certificate is valid for one year and is the current minimum industry requirement for employment as a lifeguard. Please see the PDF below for full details.

Please note: a valid Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion is required to enrol in this course. A First Aid certificate is required to complete this course.
