Tennis Coaching Term Program

The UQ Sport Kids Tennis term program is the perfect way for your child to get some exercise during the school term. With our tennis lessons for kids, not only can they improve their tennis game, but they can have heaps of fun and make new friends on court.

The program is split into stages to make sure your child learns at their own pace and progresses to the next stage only when ready. Once your child starts playing tennis regularly, they will be placed in the stage that is most suitable for them.

Your child will also get a Tennis Queensland membership when they take up tennis coaching with us. Being a registered player provides your child with personal accident insurance, sanctioned tournaments and events to compete in, exclusive access to Australian Open and Brisbane International presale tickets, prizes, and keeps you up-to-date with all the latest tennis news.

What are the options?

Blue Stage (entry level)

Blue stage is designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of tennis through fun games and activities. There is a strong focus on motor skills and hand-eye-coordination using techniques that replicate tennis skills such as throwing, catching, movement, perception and striking. Parent participation is recommended in this program.

All new Blue Stage players receive a free tennis racquet to help get them started! Grab yours from the Tennis Pro Shop in the first week of term.

Age: 3-5 years

Red Ball 1 (entry level)

Aimed at players with little or no tennis experience to learn basic tennis strokes and technique. There is a strong focus on motor skills and hand-eye-coordination using techniques that replicate tennis skills such as throwing, catching, movement, perception and striking.

All new Red Ball players receive a free tennis racquet to help get them started! Grab yours from the Tennis Pro Shop in the first week of term.

Age: 5-7 years

Red Ball 2

Players will work on refining their tennis skills with a strong focus on learning through game play (rallying). Technique, shot selection, and serving is key at this stage in order for them to be a part of Hot Shots Red Fixtures (strongly recommended).

Age: 6-8 years

Orange Ball 1 (entry level)

For players with limited or no tennis experience, looking to learn the fundamentals and basic skills of the game. There is a strong focus on motor skills and hand-eye-coordination using techniques that replicate tennis skills such as throwing, catching, movement, perception and striking.

All new Orange Ball 1 players receive a free tennis racquet to help get them started! Grab yours from the Tennis Pro Shop in the first week of term.

Age: 8-10 years

Orange Ball 2

Players refine fundamental skills with an emphasis on ground strokes, volleying and serves/returns. Players will work on refining their tennis skills with a strong focus on learning through game play (rallying) in order for them to be part of Hot Shots Orange Fixtures (strongly recommended).

Age: 8-10 years

Orange Performance Squad (invite only)

Game play strategies, court movement and structured play are key focus points. There is a strong focus on developing different spins, grips and tactics in order for them to play in Hot Shots Orange Fixtures (strongly recommended) as well as regular tournaments, local and state events.

Age: 8 - 10 years

Green Ball 1

For players with limited tennis experience, looking to learn the fundamentals and develop basic skills of the game. Players learn on a full size court with modified tennis balls. Learning through play is a strong focus at this stage. They will learn grips, spins and game play tactics.

Age: 10-12 years

Green Ball 2

Game play strategies, court movement and positioning tactics are key focus points. There is a strong focus on developing different spins, grips and attacking and game play in order to take part in Hot Shots Green Fixtures (strongly recommended) as well as regular tournaments and state events.

Age: 10-12 years

Green Performance Squad (Invite Only)

For advanced players looking to compete at a high level in regional, national and international tournaments. The squad will perfect technique, in addition to developing routines, tactical match play skills and patterns of play.

Age: 10 - 12 years

Yellow Ball

For tennis players who are transitioning from hot shots pathway with limited tennis experience. Players will be focusing on developing their match play ability. There is a strong focus on technique and tactic strategy. Players will be involved in fixtures and local and state events.

Age: 11+ years

Junior Development Squad - Invite only

For advanced players looking to compete at a high level in regional, national and international tournaments. The squad will perfect technique, in addition to developing routines, tactical match play skills and patterns of play.

Age: 11+ years

Junior Tennis Fixtures

Match play is one of the key elements that helps juniors in their tennis development. Aimed at experienced orange ballers and above, the junior fixtures program provides an opportunity for players looking to practice what they have learnt during coaching as well as players who would like to take their tennis more seriously.
