UQ Cheerleading Club

UQCS is an emerging Australian university cheerleading club that competes in state and national cheer and dance competitions. The club was established in mid-2014 and from a single 13-person cheer team, the club has grown to host a number of teams across many cheer and dance styles.

The club strives for excellence, and in its short history has won five first-place state-level titles, six second-place state titles, and fourth- and fifth-place national level titles.

Pom is best described as a fast-paced formation changing, illusion making, pom shaking jazz-style dance! Contemporary, on the other hand, is about using movement to convey emotion and communicate a narrative. As such, whether its an intricate jump or a subtle head movement, each step has a purpose.

Cheerleading is a sport of its own, separate from the traditional sideline cheering usually seen at football games in America. It involves advanced tumbling passes and high flying stunting! Both of our cheer teams train at  Queensland's premier club, Queensland Cheer Elite.

Email Club President Rebecca Robins for more information.

Please note: we are only able to take current UQ students, with try outs being held at the beginning of each year.
