Field 6 Redevelopment
New basketball, beach volleyball and netball courts will open at UQ’s St Lucia campus by the end of 2018.
UQ’s existing two beach volleyball courts have been extended to include a third court, as well as bleacher seating for spectators.
An outdoor basketball space will bring 3×3 Basketball – the world’s most popular urban sport – to UQ’s St Lucia campus for the first time.
Located between the beach volleyball and tennis courts on Blair Drive, the circular-shaped court is due to open late-November, and will be a free-to-use facility.
An additional four multi-use hire courts are currently under construction at the northern end of Field 6, with the new facility to increase capacity to play netball and basketball at UQ.
The flood-lit courts, set to be completed by mid-December, are interchangeable and may be converted to stage tennis in future.
The reconfigured Field 6 grass pitch will remain open to stage training and matches for selected sports, such as touch football, ultimate disc and athletics.
Two public use amenity shelters will also be added to the site, and include BBQ, seating, storage, and PWD (People with Disability) toilet facilities.
