Join in this rich new Short Course – hosted by UQ Sport in partnership with Genshin Nitō-ryū Kenjutsu – and spend 5-weeks learning and developing legitimate techniques of Japanese Swordsmanship.
Delving straight into the Nitō-ryū style of techniques, this training will see you learn how to wield two swords simultaneously, leaving you completely immersed in the craft, while developing ambidextrous weapons handling abilities!
Structured in a deliberate fashion, students will explore and develop their skills across three kata sets known as: (1) Kiso (foundation); (2) Tenkai (expansion); and (3) Tōgō (Integration). Each kata set, while unique in its character and purpose, is designed to seamlessly connect teachings together.
Upon completion of this Course, students will have learned advanced body movement, targeting, distancing, and timing skills – not to mention, intense kihaku (strength of spirit).
Please note, all wooden practice swords are provided and there is no free sparring between students in this Course. Japanese Swordsmanship is open to everyone over the age of 18 years. Participants do not need any specific skills or previous experience to be involved.
