Since its inception in 2004, the UQ Sport 1500m Classic has been a regular fixture on the Queensland Athletics calendar, kicking off the track and field season!
The event consists of only 1500m races, with more than 20 events for school-age, masters, race walking, and elite-level competitors.
Year-on-year, the 1500m Classic attracts hundreds of competitors from all over Australia – including Olympians and World Championship-level athletes – with all races seeded based on performance.
The 2020 event – staged by Queensland Athletics – consisted of 25 races with more than 300 athletes competing across the range of divisions. In 2021, a minimum prize pool of $1,200 will be on offer to placegetters in the Men’s & Women’s 1500m Classic races.
Australian representatives Nick Toohey (’08, ’09, ’10 & ’12) and Jordan Williamsz (’16, ’17, ’18 & ’19) hold the record for the most Men’s 1500m Classic wins, with Brittany McGowan a five-time winner (’12, ’13, ’16, ’17 & ’19) of the Women’s 1500m Classic.
All UQ Sport 1500m Classic competitors must be registered with Queensland Athletics, or another State Athletic Association. Athletes not registered with Queensland Athletics are able to pay an additional $12 with their entry, which will give them Base Membership with Queensland Athletics.
Please note: Athletes should enter prior to the registration closing date to ensure a start.
