More details on these changes are below, including what we need you to do to before, during and after your exercise session to help us keep everyone safe and healthy.

UQ Sport’s COVIDSafe plan is modelled on the Queensland Government’s Roadmap to easing restrictions, as well as guidelines developed by national and state sport and recreation governing bodies. Our plan may be amended as required to reflect any changes in direction and advice. It is vital you regularly visit this page to ensure you remain up-to-date with the latest COVIDSafe information, and how it relates to using our venues and facilities at this time.

General Guidelines

  • Stay at home if you feel unwell. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, get tested.
  • Observe 1.5m physical distancing guidelines.
  • Practice healthy hygiene. Wash your hands regularly, and cover your coughs and sneezes.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Consider downloading the Australian Government’s COVIDSafe App.

Please note:

  • Limited water refill stations will be open across UQ Sport venues, so please ensure your water bottles are full for your session.
  • Limited seating areas are available across UQ Sport’s venues.
  • Spectators are permitted to attend selected activities at UQ Sport venues. All spectators must adhere to 1.5m physical distancing guidelines, and follow directional signage.
  • UQ Sport venues are only accepting EFTPOS payments.

Our staff have undergone relevant training in safety and hygiene practises as recommended by health bodies and industry guidelines.

UQ Sport-specific Guidelines

  • Please be aware, some customers and patrons may be directed by UQ Sport staff to check-in by scanning the QR code, or completing the sign-in sheet, at selected venues. Contact information about customers and staff collected by UQ Sport will be kept securely for 56 days, and provided to public health officers if requested. The information must include: full name, phone number, email address and the date and time period of patronage.
  • Prior to visiting a UQ Sport venue or participating in a program, update your contact details in case we need to get in touch. You can do this by logging-in or creating a My Account profile. You will also need a UQ Sport account to book-in for some sessions.
  • Selected changing rooms across UQ Sport venues are now open, however, we are still encouraging all our visitors to arrive dressed and ready for your session, and leave immediately after it is completed wherever possible.
  • Individual toilets will be open, however, they should not to be used as changing rooms before or after your session.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation. Only arrive for your session close to the start time and leave immediately after.
  • Bring your own drink bottle and towel.
  • Maintain a 1.5m physical distance from others at all times.
  • Clean all equipment after use with the sanitary products provided.

St Lucia Activity & Venue-specific Guidelines

Before Your Session

  • Ensure your contact details are up-to-date by logging-in or creating a My Account If you have difficulty creating an account, please contact UQ Sport staff.
  • Customers with a Membership (Gold or Gym/Cardio), or Casual Gym Entry Pass, may access the Weights and Cardio Gym at any time during Fitness Centre opening hours. Bookings are not required, and there are no time limits imposed on training sessions.
  • Before your session, you are required to check-in at the Fitness Centre reception desk.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready to train, and leave immediately after your session.
  • Male and female changing rooms are open at the Fitness Centre. Individual toilets are also open throughout the Fitness Centre, however, they are not to be used as a changing facility.
  • Bring your own drink bottle and towel.
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, and follow the directional signage at all times.

During & After Your Session

  • Use hand sanitiser (available at the reception desk) prior to entering and exiting the gym.
  • Maintain a 1.5m physical distance from others at all times.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • Use a towel at all times and clean equipment after use with the sanitary products provided.
  • UQ Sport staff will maintain a 1.5 distance at all times and may deliver instructions verbally.
  • When exiting the Fitness Centre, you must check-out by visiting the Fitness Centre reception desk.

Before Your Session

  • Members (Gold) and non-Members may book-in for Group Fitness classes, with capacity capped at 43 participants per class.
  • Gold Members may book-in for a Group Fitness class by logging-in via My Account. Once logged in, click on the ‘Group Fitness’ tab and select your preferred class and session time to check-in. On arrival, see UQ Sport staff at the reception desk and present the entry ticket on your smartphone. Upon check-in, you will receive a COVIDSafe briefing and have your attendance recorded. Please note, online bookings will open 12 hours before the scheduled session.
  • If you are a non-Member, you may participate by purchasing a Casual Group Fitness Pass (EFTPOS-only) by calling or visiting the UQ Sport Fitness Centre during opening hours. Pass holders will only be permitted to participate if there is space available. To avoid disappointment, we recommend calling ahead of your preferred session time to ask if there is likely to be spaces available.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready to train, and leave immediately after your session.
  • Male and female changing rooms are open at the Fitness Centre. Individual toilets are also open throughout the Fitness Centre, however, they are not to be used as a changing facility.

  • Only arrive for your session close to the start time to avoid unnecessary queuing. When waiting for your class to begin, please observe queue markings.

During & After Your Session

  • Maintain a 1.5m physical distance from others at all times.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • Follow the directions of your UQ Sport Group Fitness Instructor who will allocate you a designated workout area.
  • UQ Sport Group Fitness Instructors will maintain a 1.5 distance at all times and deliver instructions verbally.
  • You will be required to make adjustments to equipment, including changing weights, during your session.
  • Leave all workout equipment at your workout station. UQ Sport staff will clean and sanitise the equipment after your class.
  • Participants will be required to exit in a staggered fashion to maintain 1.5m physical distancing. Please follow the directions of your UQ Sport Group Fitness Instructor.

Before Your Session

  • One-on-one or Group Personal Training sessions will be held in the Personal Training Studio (maxim capacity: 15 people) in the Fitness Centre. There are no time limits imposed on training sessions.
  • Personal Training sessions can be booked by calling or visiting the UQ Sport Fitness Centre during opening hours. Payment (EFTPOS-only) will be taken at the time of your booking. To avoid disappointment, we recommend calling ahead to secure a session at your preferred time.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready for your session.

  • Non-members may participate in a session by purchasing a Casual Group Fitness Pass (EFTPOS-only). Pass holders may check-in for a session on-arrival at the Aquatic Centre, however, entry will only be permitted if spaces are available.

  • All Aquatic Centre change rooms, including the unisex and family change rooms, are currently closed. Customers are encouraged to arrive ready to swim and leave immediately after their swim session. Two (2) ambulant, portable toilets are available at the northern end of the 25m pool. Please do not use these as changing areas.
  • The change rooms at the Fitness Centreon Union Road are available to Aquatic Centre customers. Please remember to sign-in at the Fitness Centre, using the QR Code or manual sign-in sheet, and advise the reception staff as a courtesy.
  • Only essential swimming equipment – including goggles, kickboards, flippers, and pool buoys – will be permitted inside the Aquatic Centre.
  • Bring your own drink bottle.
  • The Aquatic Centre Pro Shop is currently closed. Lockers access will not be available.
  • Only arrive for your session close to the start time to avoid unnecessary queuing.
  • When you arrive, check-in with UQ Sport staff at the reception desk, where you will receive a COVIDSafe briefing and have your attendance recorded.
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, and follow the directional signage at all times.

During & After Your Session

  • UQ Sport staff will direct you to your allocated lane.
  • Your belongings can be placed in the designated space located near your allocated lane. Please collect your belongings before leaving.
  • Session-ending reminders, and instructions of how to exit the Aquatic Centre, will be delivered by the lifeguard.
  • Participants will be required to exit in a staggered fashion to maintain 1.5m physical distancing. Exit the Aquatic Centre, as directed, via the side gate that leads to the P10 parking bay.

Before Your Session

  • Competitive Swim Squads will run under a revised program for the foreseeable future. All participants will be contacted directly by Head Coach – Aquatics David Heyden, who will issue each participant with a personalised training program.
  • Competitive Swim Squad Members must ensure their contact details are up-to-date, by logging-in or creating a My Account Please note, guardians responsible for junior swimmers will be required to complete this step on the participant’s behalf. If you have difficulty creating an account, please contact UQ Sport staff.
  • On arrival at the Aquatic Centre, the participant must present their Membership card to be scanned. Participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a guardian in order to check-in. Guardians of children under 15 are permitted to wait for their child to complete their session in a designated area, as directed by UQ Sport staff.

  • Kids and Adults Learn-to-Swim lessons will be held in both the program and 25m Pools. Please note, the Bubble Club maternity program is suspended until further notice, and free Learn-to-Swim lessons are not currently available for children aged 4-6 months.
  • Adult Learn-to-Swim participants are required to login or create a My Account profile prior to registering for the program. Please note, guardians responsible for underage swimmers will be required to complete this step on the participant’s behalf. Once logged-in, please ensure your contact details are up-to-date. If you have difficulty creating an account, or logging-in, please contact UQ Sport staff.
  • New Learn-to-Swim participants aged between 3-17 years are required to undergo a swimming assessment prior to registering in the program, to ensure the child is enrolled in a level appropriate to their swimming ability. To arrange a swimming assessment, please email swimschool@uqsport.com.au
  • Customers can only enrol in Learn-to-Swim programs by visiting or calling the Aquatic Centre. Learn-to-Swim bookings will be placed on hold for a period of seven (7) days, and customers must complete and submit a Direct Debit Request Form to the Aquatic Centre inside the seven (7) day period to confirm the booking. Please note, the Direct Debit Request Form can only be submitted by returning the form in-person at the Aquatic Centre.
  • When you arrive, check-in with UQ Sport staff at the reception desk, where you will receive a COVIDSafe briefing and have your attendance recorded. Participants will then be directed to their lesson location, where they will be greeted by a Deck Supervisor.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready to swim, and leave immediately after your session.
  • All Aquatic Centre change rooms, including the unisex and family change rooms, are currently closed. Customers are encouraged to arrive ready to swim and leave immediately after their swim session. Two (2) ambulant, portable toilets are available at the northern end of the 25m pool. Please do not use these as changing areas.
  • Only arrive for your session close to the start time to avoid unnecessary queuing.
  • Guardians of children under 15 are permitted to wait for their child to complete their session in a designated area, as directed by UQ Sport staff. Please note, only one (1) guardian is permitted to accompany Learn-to-Swim participants during their lesson.
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, and follow the directional signage at all times.

During & After the Session

  • Use hand sanitiser (available at the reception desk, as well the program and 25m Pools) prior to entering and exiting pool areas.
  • Belongings can be placed in the designated space, as directed by UQ Sport staff. Please collect your belongings before leaving.
  • UQ Sport Learn-to-Swim Instructors will keep a minimum 1.5m distance from participants at all times, except when delivering lessons that require hands-on teaching (Turtles, Starfish, Octopus, and Crocodiles).
  • Session-ending reminders, and instructions of how to exit the Aquatic Centre, will be delivered by the Learn-to-Swim Instructor.
  • Participants will be required to exit in a staggered fashion to maintain 1.5m physical distancing. Exit the Aquatic Centre, as directed, via the side gate that leads to the P10 parking bay. Please follow the directional signage at all times.

Before Your Session

  • Court bookings can be made for both singles and doubles-play. The minimum booking length is 60-minutes, and customers may book for longer than 60-minutes.
  • The player responsible for booking a court must login or create a My Account profile prior to booking a court. If you have difficulty creating an account, please contact UQ Sport staff.
  • Court bookings can made online via the My Account platform, and payment (EFTPOS-only) will be taken at the time of the booking. Please note, Gold Members can book a complimentary court between 4-5pm (Monday-Friday), and 1pm-2pm (Sunday).
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready for your session.
  • Changing rooms are closed, including shower facilities. Individual toilets will be open, however, they are not to be used as a changing facility.
  • All players must check-in with UQ Sport staff at the Tennis Centre Pro Shop. Playing partners will be required to manually sign-in, and provide their contact details.
  • Only arrive for your session close to the start time to avoid unnecessary queuing.
  • Bring your own drink bottle.
  • The Tennis Centre Pro Shop is open for the sale of selected retail items, such as balls, racquets, grip tapes, and apparel. Non-perishable food and drink items, including water, isotonic drinks and confectionary, can also be purchased at the reception desk (EFTPOS-only). Our restring service is also available. Please note, racquet hire is currently unavailable.
  • Maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, and follow the directional signage at all times.

During & After Your Session

  • Use hand sanitiser (available at reception desk) prior to entering and exiting your designated court.
  • Please leave your court immediately after your session to avoid crowding in the area, and allow UQ Sport staff to carry out cleaning duties.

Before the Session

  • Under Stage 2 restrictions, the UQ Sport Athletics Centre will open for approved UQ Athletics Club activities only. All sessions will be coordinated by the UQ Athletics Club, and delivered as per the Club’s UQ Sport-approved COVIDSafe activity plan.
  • Only track access is permitted, with the venue separated into two (2) zones. A maximum of 20 participants (including coaches) are allowed per designated track zone.
  • All field event facilities remain closed, and UQ Sport hire equipment (including hurdles and starting blocks) is not available.
  • Participants will be assigned a track zone by a UQ Athletics Club representative prior to the booked session commencing. Training groups are not to mingle or interact before, during or after the session. Athletes and coaches must not come within 10m of another group in another zone.
  • A UQ Athletics Club-appointed COVIDSafe Delegate must record the attendance, and contact details, of each participant prior to a booked session beginning.
  • Participants should arrive no more than five (5) minutes before their booked training session.
  • UQ Athletics Club representatives will distribute wristbands to all participants prior to the booked training session commencing. Wristbands must be worn at all times.
  • Participants will receive a safety briefing from a UQ Athletics Club representative prior to the session commencing.
  • UQ Athletics Club representatives are responsible for placing, moving and removing training aids – such as cones and markers – around the track.
  • Participants must adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready to train, and leave immediately after their session.
  • Changing rooms across UQ Sport venues are closed. Toilet facilities will be available on the top and bottom floor of the Athletics Centre, however, they are not intended to be used as a changing facility.
  • Seating in the Athletics Centre grandstand is closed.
  • Participants must maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, ensure good hygiene practices are maintained and follow the directional signage at all times.

During & After the Session

  • The UQ Athletics Club is responsible for the safe and appropriate delivery of the training session, in accordance with their approved COVIDSafe Activity Plan. UQ Sport COVIDSafe Delegates will also be on-site if further assistance is required.
  • Participants must use the supplied hand sanitiser before and after the session.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • When on track, participants must maintain a 1.5m physical distance from others at all times. However, 2-3m physical distance is recommended when athletes are ventilating heavily.
  • When running in lanes, participants should use every second lane to ensure there is an adequate gap between athletes.
  • Participants must not run in groups, or in the slipstream of other athletes.
  • Participants must leave the premises immediately after the session to avoid crowding in the area. During Stage 2 restrictions, there should be no socialising before or after training sessions

Before the Session

  • Customers can book Squash or Badminton Courts online via the My Account portal, or by contacting the UQ Sport Fitness Centre. Payment (EFTPOS-only) will be taken at the time of the booking.
  • Squash bookings are limited to a maximum of two (2) people, with a total of four (4) players permitted for Badminton. There are no time limits for Court bookings. Please note, all participants are required to create a My Account profile prior to playing. If you have difficulty creating an account, please contact UQ Sport staff.
  • From Wednesday, 29 July, the Sports Hall can be booked for UQ Sport Club activities only. Sports Hall bookings can only be made once a COVIDSafe Activity Plan has been submitted and approved by UQ Sport. Please note, approved Sports Hall bookings are subject to current COVIDSafe guidelines, as advised by the Queensland Government.
  • Adopt the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) ‘Get in, train and get out’ recommendation, and arrive dressed and ready for the session.
  • Male and female changing rooms are open at the Fitness Centre. Individual toilets are also open throughout the Fitness Centre, however, they are not to be used as a changing facility.
  • Customers with a Squash or Badminton Court booking are required to check-in with UQ Sport staff at the Fitness Centre reception desk, where they will receive a COVIDSafe briefing and have their attendance recorded.
  • For Club bookings in the Sports Hall, a Club-appointed COVIDSafe Delegate must check-in with UQ Sport staff at the Fitness Centre reception desk upon arrival. The Club Delegate is required to record the attendance and contact details of each participant, and inform group participants of processes outlined in their COVIDSafe plan, prior to the booked session beginning.
  • Participants should only arrive for the booked session close to the start time to avoid unnecessary congregating. For Club bookings, UQ Sport staff may ask participants to wait outside the Fitness Centre for the session to begin.
  • Participants should bring their own drink bottle and towel.
  • Participants must maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, and follow the directional signage at all times.
  • Spectators are not permitted at this present time.

During & After the Session

  • Participants must use hand sanitiser (available at reception desk, and outside the Squash and Badminton Courts) prior to entering and exiting the designated court or playing area.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • Participants must leave the court or playing area immediately after the session to avoid crowding in the area, and allow UQ Sport staff to carry out cleaning duties. Club participants should exit in a staggered fashion to maintain 1.5m physical distancing.

Before the Session

  • The Martial Arts Gym (MAG) may be booked for UQ Sport Club activities only, with an approved COVIDSafe activity plan in place.
  • MAG bookings can only be made once a COVIDSafe Activity Plan has been submitted and approved by UQ Sport. Once approval has been granted, MAG bookings can be made by contacting the Fitness Centre. Please note, approved MAG bookings are subject to current COVIDSafe guidelines, as advised by the Queensland Government.
  • A Club-appointed COVIDSafe Delegate must check-in with UQ Sport staff at the Fitness Centre reception desk upon arrival. They must also complete a Condition Report (in conjunction with UQ Sport staff) before each session.

  • Participants must maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements, ensure good hygiene practices are maintained and follow the directional signage at all times.
  • Clubs are responsible for the safe and appropriate delivery of the session, in accordance with the approved COVIDSafe Activity Plan. UQ Sport COVIDSafe Delegates will also be on-site if further assistance is required.
  • Clubs are required to provide hand sanitiser for participants to use before, during and after the booked session. Additional hand sanitiser is available at the Fitness Centre reception. Clubs are also responsible for disinfecting MAG facilities, in accordance with the approved COVIDSafe Activity Plan.
  • The Protection Mat (blue cover) can only be used if approved by UQ Sport at the time of booking.

During & After the Session

  • Participants must use hand sanitiser before and after the session.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • Shoes must be worn when exiting the MAG, and when using Fitness Centre amenities, including toilets.
  • Participants must use the transition carpet when moving between the wooden floor and Tatami Mat. Shoes must be removed on the transition carpet before stepping onto the Tatami Mat. Participants should also use the transition carpet to put on shoes prior to stepping onto the wooden floor.
  • Skipping ropes are not permitted on the Tatami Mat.
  • The Protection Mat (blue cover) must remain unfolded for the duration of the session, and be cleaned, dried and folded away at the completion of the session. Please note, shoes and skipping ropes are not permitted on the Protection Mat.
  • The Tatami Mat must be disinfected, and wooden floor spot-cleaned, prior to completion of the session. Blood spots should be spot-cleaned and reported to UQ Sport staff.
  • The MAG must be left in the same condition as it was prior to the beginning of the booking. UQ Sport staff will complete a Condition Report at the completion of the session, in conjunction with the ensuing hirer.
  • Participants must leave the MAG immediately after the session to avoid crowding in the area. Please follow the directional signage via the alternate exit point, opposite the main entry point. There should be no socialising before or after sessions.

Before Your Session

  • Playing Fields may be booked for group activities by both the general public, as well as the UQ community and UQ Sport Clubs, with an approved COVIDSafe activity plan in-place.
  • Field bookings will only be confirmed once a COVIDSafe Activity Plan has been submitted and approved by UQ Sport. Approved Field bookings are subject to current COVIDSafe guidelines, as advised by the Queensland Government.
  • A group-appointed COVIDSafe Delegate must record the attendance and contact details of each participant and inform group participants of processes outlined in their COVIDSafe plan prior to the booked session beginning. A UQ Sport delegate will check-in with the group-appointed COVIDSafe Delegate to ensure this process has been completed.

Outdoor courts across the St Lucia campus are now accessible for public use. Patrons using outdoor courts must adhere to physical distancing requirements, as imposed by the Queensland Government.

Bookings may be required for some outdoor courts (see venue signage).

Before Your Game

  • Participants should only arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled game time to avoid unnecessary congregating.
  • Participants and spectators must maintain 1.5m physical distancing requirements when not on the playing field or court.
  • Ensure good hygiene practices are maintained and follow the directional signage at all times.

  • Selected changing rooms across UQ Sport venues are now open, however we are still encouraging all our visitors to arrive dressed and ready for your session, and leave immediately after it is completed wherever possible.
  • Individual toilets will be open, however, they should not to be used as changing rooms before or after your session.
  • Participants must sign the Team Registration Form, provided by the UQ Sport Convenor, before each game.
  • All players must also sign a Participant Waiver Form, provided by the UQ Sport Convenor. This form only needs to be filled-in once, and participants must sign and date the form, and provide up-to-date contact information.
  • Follow all directions provided by the UQ Sport Convenor, and only enter the playing field or court when instructed to.

During & After Your Game

  • Participants must use the supplied hand sanitiser before and after the game.
  • Maintain a 1.5m physical distance from others when not on the field or court at all times.
  • Adhere to all venue and directional signage.
  • Participants must leave the court or playing field within five (5) minutes of the game ending to avoid crowding in the area.

  • Gatton Group Fitness class capacities vary and range between a maximum of 18-30
  • All Access Members and non-members may book-in for a Group Fitness class by calling or visiting the UQ Sport Gatton Fitness & Aquatic Centre during opening hours. Non-members will be required to purchase a Casual Group Fitness Pass, with payment (EFTPOS-only) to be taken at the time of your booking. To avoid disappointment, we recommend calling ahead of your preferred session time to secure a place.

  • Follow the directions of your UQ Sport Group Fitness Instructor who will allocate you a designated workout area.
  • Leave all workout equipment at your workout station. UQ Sport staff will clean and sanitise the equipment after your class.
  • Participants will be required to exit in a staggered fashion to maintain 1.5m physical distancing. Please follow the directions of your UQ Sport Group Fitness Instructor.
  • Exit via the brown doors, as directed. UQ Sport staff will record your departure.
