We have a new look! From September 2020, UQ Sport has a new brand. Our new logo takes inspiration from The University of Queensland shield, combined with the energy of an active lifestyle. We’ve also adopted the UQ colours of purple, white and black.
While we may look a little different, our commitment to the UQ Sport community is not. We continue to encourage everyone to achieve their own version of wellbeing – and Unleash their Personal Best.
About UQ Sport
For more than a century, UQ Sport has led sport and recreation at The University of Queensland. We’re a not-for-profit organisation committed to promoting sport, physical recreation and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle within UQ.
From our beginnings in 1911 – when we were known as ‘The University of Queensland Sports and Physical Recreation Association’ – to today, operating one of the state’s largest multi-sport complexes, our purpose has remained the same: to inject our communities with joy, vitality, and a sense of connection.
UQ Sport is a passionate, energetic and fun-loving organisation employing more than 200 enthusiastic staff members. We pride ourselves on a workplace culture that promotes fun and flexibility. In fact, UQ Sport was recognised in 2016 as one of the best places to work in Australia, after being awarded a Bronze Medal in the Human Resources Director (HRD) Magazine’s national ‘Employer of Choice’ Survey!
What We Do
We’re home to some of Queensland’s finest sporting and recreation facilities. Every week, we welcome thousands of participants to our venues and facilities across our St Lucia and Gatton campuses. Our membership base spans more than 4,000 customers, with a further 7,000 people actively involved across UQ’s 35+ sporting clubs.
At St Lucia, you’ll find Athletics, Aquatic, Tennis and Fitness Centres, as well as a selection of grass and synthetic playing fields, indoor and outdoor courts, function spaces, and retail outlets – including the UQ Shop and our BrewPoint café locations.
Our Gatton campus features a Fitness and Aquatic Centre, with playing fields, tennis, basketball, netball, and squash facilities also available.
The UQ Sport Academy supports more than 200 elite-level student-athletes – including Sporting Scholarship recipients – helping them balance the demands of sport and study.
UQ Sport acknowledges the Traditional Owners and their custodianship of the lands on which we operate. We pay our respects to their Ancestors and their descendants, who continue cultural and spiritual connections to Country. We recognise their valuable contributions to Australian and global society. UQ Sport works closely with the UQ ATSIS Unit to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students on campus. All profits from UQ Shop’s Reconciliation Collection are donated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student scholarships and programs at UQ.
