UQ Sport Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to promoting sport, physical recreation and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle within The University of Queensland and broader communities across UQ’s St Lucia and Gatton campuses.
Established in 1911 as ‘The University of Queensland Sports and Physical Recreation Association’, UQ Sport proudly operates the largest multi-sport complex in Queensland, delivering almost 400 diverse programs to UQ students, staff and alumni, as well as the general public.
UQ Sport is home to some of the state’s finest sporting facilities – including first-class Athletics, Aquatic, Tennis, and Fitness Centres – as well as more than 10 playing fields, highlighted by the $24 million UQ Synthetic Fields Precinct.
We encourage our more than 4,000 members to play their way with more than 75 sports and activities, 10 social sport options, and 35 sporting clubs to choose from. UQ Sport also delivers large sporting events on campus – such as the Great Court Race and 1500m Classic – while working to deliver maximum student participation and enjoyment in offsite competitions, including UniSport Nationals and Varsity Clubs Clash.
The UQ Sport Academy – one of Queensland’s premier providers of high performance services and programs to elite-level athletes, teams and coaches – supports over 200 elite-level student-athletes, as well as Sporting Scholarship recipients who compete at state, national and international-level. The Academy offers strength and conditioning, sports science testing, coaching workshops, athlete counselling and more.
We play, learn and laugh from birth, with UQ Sport Kids nurturing budding champions in our tennis, swimming, athletics, and Kids Club programs. Our team of qualified instructors encourage children to kick new goals at their own pace in a fun, safe and supportive environment, making buddies for life and learning the importance of an active lifestyle.
UQ Sport is a passionate and vibrant organisation that employs more than 70 energetic permanent staff, and over 250 enthusiastic casuals. We pride ourselves on a workplace culture that promotes fun and flexibility. In 2016, UQ Sport was recognised by its staff and the HR industry as one of the best places to work in Australia – awarded a Bronze Medal in the Human Resources Director (HRD) Magazine’s national ‘Employer of Choice’ Survey.
