What is SSAF?

On 11 October 2011, the Australian Parliament passed legislation allowing universities and other higher education providers to charge a fee for student services and amenities of a non-academic nature. This fee is used to provide and enhance services on campus for the benefit of the student experience.

What is SSAF used for?

  • Improve student access by reducing cost barriers.
  • Provide essential services that cannot operate via a
    fee-for-service model.
  • Address infrastructure needs, accessibility, safety,
    and participation.
  • Deliver value to the students who pay the fee
within that year (excluding capital projects).
