Sport is an integral part of student life at The University of Queensland (UQ).
Since 1990, UQ – in partnership with UQ Sport and valued supporters – has proudly been offering sporting scholarships and athlete support programs to assist exceptional athletes balance their studies with the demands of elite-level sport.
With an excellent reputation for achievement in the elite sporting arena, UQ is proud to support student-athletes from a wide range of sports. UQ has seen its student-athletes excel at the highest international levels, including at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. UQ’s Sporting Scholarships currently support International, National and State representatives in more than 17 different sports with these athletes benefiting from the outstanding sporting facilities and services the University and the UQ Sport Elite Athlete Program has to offer.

UQ Sports Achievement Scholarship
Established in 2008, UQ Sports Achievement Scholarships are awarded to new and current undergraduate or postgraduate students who intend to be enrolled in a minimum of #4 units per semester and who display elite sporting, academic and leadership achievements. These year-long scholarships are funded by donors and by The University of Queensland to encourage and support scholarship holders to reach their full potential both in their academic and sporting commitments. The Matthew Levy OAM Future Paralympian Scholarship
Established in 2023 by a donation from Matthew Levy OAM. Matthew Levy OAM is a retired Australian Paralympic swimmer who won three gold, one silver and six bronze medals across five Paralympic Games between 2004 to 2020. Matthew believes in the power of education and wishes to give back to the community by supporting a sporting scholarship for a student athlete with a disability to pursue studies at UQ. He hopes his story will serve as inspiration to future Paralympians. For more information, please see here.
Clem Jones Sporting Scholarships
Established in 2000, Clem Jones Sporting Scholarships are awarded to new and current undergraduate students who intend to be enrolled full-time and who demonstrate the potential to perform at a high level in their chosen sport. These three year-long scholarships are funded by an annual donation from the late Dr Clem Jones AO to encourage and support scholarship holders to continue performing at a high level and achieve further sporting success throughout their time at university. Wensley Sporting Scholarship
Established in 2020, The Wensley Sporting Scholarship is awarded to a new or current undergraduate or postgraduate student with financial need. The eligibility of this award requires demonstrated financial need, intent to be enrolled on a full-time basis and competing at an Elite Level in a Sport Australia recognised Sport. This year-long scholarship is named in honour of The Honourable Dr Penelope Wensley AC and is maintained by the Alumni Friends Giving Society endowment fund. For more information, please see here.
UQ Sport Scholarship Ambassador Program
The UQ Sport Scholarship Ambassador Program was introduced in 2010 to provide support services to high performing athletes who are ineligible for the other scholarships on offer. This program is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as students of all nationalities. These year-long programs are awarded based on the students’ past sporting achievements in their chosen sport and provide comprehensive support services to continue to nurture their sporting abilities.
