Important Advice – UQ Sport Aquatic Centre Maintenance

(UPDATED: 11am, Wednesday 14 October 2020)

From Monday 19 October, the Learn-to-Swim Program Pool will be closed for up to five (5) weeks as part of The University of Queensland’s current program of essential maintenance works at the UQ Sport Aquatic Centre.

During this time, selected Kids and Adult Learn-to-Swim programs will be postponed until the works have been completed. If you or your child are currently enrolled in one of our programs, please check your inbox for an email from us with more details.

Closing the Learn-to-Swim Program Pool is required as part of the ongoing program of work to replace and update the underside of the roof structure across several buildings which we expect to continue through to mid-November 2020.

Necessary repairs to the 50m Pool remain ongoing, with works continuing to repaint the Pool.

Updates on when the 50m Pool and Learn-to-Swim Program Pool will reopen will be published on this page when available.

Please read through the details below for more information on  these temporary in-venue changes.

At present, customers are required to Enter and Exit the Aquatic Centre via the side gate that leads to the P10 parking bay for the duration of the maintenance works.

All change rooms at the Aquatic Centre, including the unisex and family change rooms, are closed for the duration of the maintenance works.

Customers are encouraged to arrive ready to swim and leave immediately after their swim session, as per our current UQ Sport COVIDSafe guidelines.

One (1) ambulant and two (2) portable toilets will be available throughout the works program at the northern end of the 25m pool. Please do not use these as changing areas.

The change rooms at the UQ Sport Fitness Centre on Union Road will be available to Aquatic Centre customers throughout the works period. Please remember to sign-in at the Fitness Centre, using the QR Code or manual sign-in sheet, and advise the reception staff as a courtesy.

From Monday, 19 October, the Learn-to-Swim Program Pool will be closed to carry out essential roof repairs. It is anticipated the Program Pool will be closed for up to five (5) weeks.

During this time, the following Kids and Adult Learn-to-Swim programs will be postponed until the works have been completed:

  • Tadpoles
  • Frogs
  • Seahorses
  • Turtles
  • Starfish
  • Octopus
  • Adult Beginner

UQ Sport will hold lesson days and times for all customers impacted by the Program Pool closure, and credit all lessons affected by the closure.

Fortnightly Direct Debit payments will continue to be processed during the shutdown, and payment amounts will be automatically adjusted to account for lesson credits.

Affected customers will be emailed prior to the resumption of the postponed Learn-to-Swim programs. Customers are encouraged to make sure their contact details are up-to-date via our My Account portal.

All other Learn-to-Swim levels – Crocodiles, Stingrays, Barracudas, Swordfish, Adult Intermediate, Adult Stroke Correction, UQ Can Swim, and Private Lessons – will continue in the 25m Pool as normal.

For more information, please call the Aquatic Centre, or email swimschool@uqsport.com.au

Access to the 25m Pool will not be disrupted throughout the maintenance works. Swimmers can continue to access the 25m Pool for Swim Squads and Lap Swimming. Entry and Exit will be via the side gate that leads to the P10 parking bay.

From Monday, 19 October, the Learn-to-Swim Program Pool will be closed to carry out essential roof repairs. It is anticipated the Program Pool will be closed for up to five (5) weeks.

The 50m Pool remains closed for necessary repairs.

The Reception, Administration Office and First Aid Room areas will all be relocated for the duration of the maintenance work to the building just inside the side gate that leads to the P10 parking bay.

While all efforts will be made to minimise disruption for Aquatic Centre customers throughout the maintenance period, we appreciate that some customers may want to suspend their Membership during this period. Suspensions are available as per the UQ Sport Memberships Terms and Conditions.

We appreciate this is a further disruption to our operations following the challenging events of 2020, and appreciate your ongoing patience and support.

Please keep an eye on this page for any updates throughout the works program or contact the Aquatic Centre.
