1500m Classic

The 1500m Classic is a competitive middle-distance race hosted at The University of Queensland since 2004. The event is recognised as a World Athletics Permit Meet.

The race draws junior athletes, university students, elite competitors and spectators to the UQ Sport Athletics Centre for an unforgettable night of racing. The event features only 1500m races ranging from a 1500m race walk to school age events, and the headlined Men’s and Women’s Classic events.

Event Details

  • Date: Wednesday 28 October  
  • Time: 5:30pm-9:40pm
  • Location: UQ Sport Athletics Centre, UQ St Lucia campus
  • Prizemoney: 1500m Boys and Girls School-Aged
    1st ($250), 2nd ($150), 3rd ($100) 
  • Prizemoney: 1500m Mens and Womens Inter-College
    1st ($150), 2nd (prize packs), 3rd (prize packs) 
  • Prizemoney: 1500m Classic Race 1 (men/women’s) 1st ($1,250), 2nd ($600), 3rd ($300)
  • Meet Record Bonus
    $250 bonus or breaking a meet record in the Men’s or Women’s 1500m Classic.

Over $8,500 in cash & prizes

Registration Details

  • Registration will open 9am Monday 14 September, and close 9am Monday 26 October
  • Athletes must be registered with Queensland Athletics or another State Athletics Association to be eligible to compete. Queensland athletes who are not currently a member of a club can register as a Base Member through Queensland Athletics

  • The competition entry fee is $32.
