A DIY Workbook

This Strategic Planning Workbook is designed to encourage you to work through your club’s purpose and goals to develop a plan that truly works for you. You can run workshops with your management committee and engage with your members to help complete the activities. Once completed, you can incorporate the results into your own strategic planning document to share with your members. 

To get the most out of your strategic planning, it helps to work methodically through these four steps:

1. Purpose
   Use the activities to help determine your club’s purpose and develop your ‘why statement’, your mission, vision and values.
2. Goal setting
   This section is about what you want to achieve. Use the activities below to write down your goals. It’s okay to dream big here.
3. Strengths Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis
   Use the SWOT activities to outline the steps to build on your strengths, address your weaknesses, capitalise on opportunities and mitigate threats.
4. Actions
   Determine the actions required to achieve your goals. Use the actions activities to write your goals and actions, and assign priorities, lead roles and budget. 

Once you have created your strategic plan it’s important to implement and review. The most successful clubs include a strategic planning review as a standing item on the management committee agenda.
