The sporting community at UQ came together on Tuesday 21 April at Hillstone St Lucia for the 2026 Club and Sports Awards.
With over 61 nominations across ten categories, the night recognised the volunteers, student-athletes, coaches and administrators helping sport at UQ thrive.
Special guest Sally Pearson OAM OLY – Olympic gold medallist joined the event to share her story of resilience and success in hurdles.

Sportswoman of the Year – Isabella Nasser
At the 2024/2025 World Sevens Series, Isabella captained the Australian team to a tournament runner-up finish, with her strong performances across the series earning her selection in the World Sevens Dream Team.
Isabella is part of a distinguished UQ Rugby family, with her father Brendan and brother Josh both representatives of the Wallabies.
Sportsman of the Year – Drew Weightman
Drew represented Australia at the World Under-23 Rowing Championships in Poland, registering a top-5 result in the ‘Men’s Eight’ event.
Drew joins his father David Weightman (1996 recipient) as a winner of the UQ Sportsman of the Year Award
He also won gold in the ‘Men’s Eight’, and ‘Men’s Four’ at the Queensland State Rowing Championships, and silver in the same two events at the National Rowing Championships
