New Fitness Centre Announced for 2027

UQ is building a new multi-level UQ Sport Fitness Centre as part of its 35-hectare Sport and Recreation Precinct at St Lucia.

Expected to open in 2027, the facility will cater to the growing number of students, staff, and community members participating in sports and recreation.

The new facility will be located between the Aquatic Centre and UQ Centre. The UQ Centre will begin transitioning back to its original purpose as an indoor multi-sport facility for court-based sports.

The current Fitness Centre will remain operational until the new facility opens.

This new Fitness Centre will span three levels and include a 1,650sqm indoor gym, upgraded strength and cardio equipment, and five versatile studios to support a bigger and better group fitness offering.

Acting CEO of UQ Sport, Pamela Abrey said “Sport plays a powerful role in bringing people of all abilities and backgrounds together, and this new centre will facilitate greater participation and connection on campus.”

Construction is due to commence in July 2025, and UQ and its contractors will aim to minimise disruption as much as possible.
