How will my child be placed in the correct level, and when will I know they are ready to progress to a new level?

On most occasions we require children over the age of three (3) to attend an assessment to establish what level best suits them.

Our Deck Supervisors continually monitor the progress of each child, ensuring they are placed in the level most appropriate to their swimming skill and ability. You can track your child’s progress via our My Account portal by clicking or tapping the ‘Courses’ tab.

When your child has been assessed by a Deck Supervisor as being ready to move up a level, you will be notified of the assessment outcome. You can move your child up to the next level online via our My Account portal, or in-person at the reception desk.

All children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Guardians must stay within the confines of the UQ Sport Aquatic Centre during the lesson, and bear responsibility for providing aid, should it be required.

You are also responsible for taking your child to the bathroom during the lesson if required, and must be poolside at the conclusion of their lesson.

If your child has any medical conditions – such as asthma, anaphylaxis or epilepsy, or requires any medication to be administered during a program – please alert UQ Sport staff. What does my child need to bring to each lesson?

Children attending Learn-to-Swim programs should bring a towel, swimming cap, sunscreen, swimmers, goggles and a drink bottle. Children are encouraged to try goggles as this makes it more comfortable to submerge under water. If children are swimming in our 25m Pool, it is recommended they wear rash shirts. Infants must also wear an aqua nappy. Children in the Barracudas and Swordfish levels will also need to bring a pool buoy, kickboard and flippers.

My child is unwell and has missed a class. Is there a make-up policy?

Yes. We have a make-up policy in place for missed Learn-to-Swim lessons.

Each individual enrolled with the UQ Sport Swim School is entitled to five (5) make-up lessons per calendar year. Make-up lessons need to be booked within seven (7) days of the missed lesson. Please note, customers must hold an active Swim School enrolment to attend a make-up lesson.

If a medical certificate is provided for a long-term illness or injury, an immediate cancellation of the individual’s enrolment will be processed. The medical certificate must be lodged in-person at the Aquatic Centre.

For further information on how to book a make-up lesson, please contact the Aquatic Centre reception staff.
