Team UQ win two gold medals at 2017 Northern Uni Games

The University of Queensland has won five medals, including two gold, at 2017 Northern Uni Games (NUG). A total of 69 student-athletes represented Team UQ at the Games in Rockhampton and Yeppoon, with UQ winning medals in all team-based sports entered.

UQ makes a splash with new swimming pool

The ramp and wheelchair-accessible pool is the centrepiece of UQ Sport Aquatic Centre’s $3.4 million redevelopment project, and is temperature set to 29°C year-round. It can cater for up to nine lanes and will be open to lap swimming, as well as selected Learn-to-Swim lessons, Swim Squad sessions and Pool Parties.

The inaugural competition will feature eight universities, with Australian-contracted Women’s Sevens players allocated among the participating teams. Emilee Cherry and Australian teammate Emma Sykes will wear Team UQ colours throughout the Series, which runs from 25 August to 30 September.

The University of Queensland's world-class sports facility, located next to the UQ Centre, is part of a $24 million development funded by the University, in collaboration with UQ Sport and UQ Endowment Fund. The precinct includes two multi-use synthetic fields which feature player dugouts, digital scoreboards and LED lighting.
