UQ Sport has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading employers after being awarded a Bronze Medal in the Human Resources Director (HRD) Magazine ‘Employer of Choice’ Survey (100-499 employees category).
Voted on by employees, the HRD survey assesses key areas, such as company culture, employee wellbeing, career progression, and training opportunities.
UQ Sport HR Manager, Hayley McNaughton, said it was pleasing to receive positive feedback from staff.
“We’re a vibrant, friendly and open workplace, offering a huge range of health, fitness and career progression opportunities to staff members at every level,” said McNaughton.
“We empower our staff to make decisions, celebrate our achievements, and most importantly, have fun in the workplace.”
UQ Sport, an independent, not-for-profit organisation, also received ‘Top Performer’ status in sub-categories for work-life balance, and health and wellbeing.
“Our employees can’t do a good job, if all they do is their job,” McNaughton said.
“We offer flexible working arrangements to suit individual lifestyles, and have reduced our full-time work week to 35 hours.
We actively manage our employees’ workloads, and make sure everyone is leaving at a reasonable hour every day.”
UQ Sport chief executive, Bryan Pryde, said the company places great emphasis on promoting a healthy lifestyle.
“Every member of the UQ Sport team enjoys access to all our sporting venues, and often you’ll see employees taking part in fitness classes and social sport as a way to not only get fit, but to take a break from work duties,” said Pryde.
“UQ Sport also strives to improve the psychological health of our employees by offering an array of personal development workshops, designed to help staff deal with pressure situations effectively.”
